Frequently Asked Questions

  • Question: I thought Soventrans.com was a translation/localization company. What kind of technical support does Soventrans.com provide?

  • Answer: Soventrans.com not only provides translation/localization services, we also offers technology solutions such as GlobalLink GMS and custom Portal Solutions. These technology solutions play an important role in our clients' plans to enter international markets. Therefore, we provide technical support to ensure our solutions fit into your long-term business plan.

  • Question: What is GlobalLink GMS?

  • Answer: GlobalLink GMS is a software product, independent from our service offering, aimed at helping our customers better integrate external localization resources to the overall content management infrastructure. It is a web-based application that assists our clients in managing localization processes without exposing critical IT infrastructure to external translation/localization resources.

  • Question: How do GlobalLink users maintain the synchronization of content in multiple languages?

  • Answer: GlobalLink allows users to concentrate on developing content in the original language and storing that content in the appropriate content repositories, such as file servers, databases and Content Management Systems. Using GlobalLink's Change Detection feature, users would be able to easily identify what content has been newly added or updated so that they can submit the content to assigned translation/localization resources. After translation/localization is completed, GlobalLink will automatically retrieve the translations and place into the desired location on your servers for review or to be published, depending on your preference.

  • Question: How does GlobalLink detect changes in my content repositories?

  • Answer: GlobalLink will be installed inside your IT infrastructure, usually on the same server where the content is stored. Through various Content Adaptors, GlobalLink monitors content changes by computing check sums on each piece of content at an interval set by the user, or at a moment when triggered by the user. GlobalLink will then list all detected changes to users for easy submission for translation.

  • Question: What are GlobalLink Content Adaptors?

  • Answer: GlobalLink itself is a web-based application. In order for GlobalLink to monitor content in various repositories, various Content Adaptors are created for specific repositories.

  • Question: What content repositories does GlobalLink support?

  • Answer: GlobalLink supports all major file systems (File System Adaptor), all JDBC-compatible database engines (Database Adaptor), Documentum 5.5 and above (Documentum Adaptor), Fatwire Content Server 6 (Fatwire Adaptor), TeamSite 5.5, 6.5 (TeamSite Adaptor) and Percussion Rhythmyx (Rhythmyx Adaptor).

  • Question: I don't have content in all repositories mentioned above. Can I purchase only those that are relevant to my content?

  • Answer: You can purchase the relevant adaptors as needed.

  • Question: I have content in a file server, a database and a TeamSite installation. Why should I use GlobalLink to manage the localization?

  • Answer: GlobalLink is designed using a concept called Projects. Under each project you are able to monitor as many different repositories as you like enabling users to go to one central location to view and submit all content that requires localization.

  • Question: I have more than one user managing content in various repositories. How can I control user access to different content repositories?

  • Answer: Each content manager is assigned access to the particular project that they work on only. This allows the content manager to focus solely on the content they are responsible for.

  • Question: Do I need to define the content repository and other relevant information every time I used GlobalLink?

  • Answer: Each project is only set up once within GlobalLink. The only reason a project would need to be re-configured is if there is a change in the content repository being monitored.

  • Question: How do I perform change detection on my content?

  • Answer: GlobalLink can be configured to perform change detection at an interval set by the user, or can be triggered by the user manually.
